How to select a submersible pump

There are four important criteria for selection of your pump.

  1. Bore well size : The diameter of the bore is the restricting Factor 
    e.g. If your bore size is 100mm then select 100mm Pumpset only.
  2. Total head : Please Understand head as below : 
    Total head =A+B+ Draw 
    Down level + Seasonal 
    Variation in water level + 
    Frictional loses.
  3. Discharge : The yielding of Bore is the criteria Important for pump selection. Only 75% of the Yield of the bore well should Be taken as rated 
    discharge of the pump.
    (Contact Your Bore well contractor to know the 
    yielding of bore)
  4. MOTOR H.P. & Pump Stages : 
    For the above total head and For the above total head and 
    discharge select the motor & pumpset from the performance 
    table having maximum efficiency at duty point.

  • Depth of open well/upper well casing pipe (F)
  • Inside diameter of upper well casing (B)
  • Column length or pumping water level (E)
  • Height of overhead storage tank (C)
  • Power supply data viz. voltage phase, neutral etc.
  • Method of starting
  • Water analysis, if other than clear water
